Requisition Summary

The PACCAR Technical Center is looking for a Battery Engineer to contribute in the design of battery packs for medium and heavy duty commercial vehicles.
In this position, you will play a key role in selecting the appropriate chemistry and cell geometry for scalable modular battery packs for PACCAR’s portfolio of electrified commercial vehicles. Responsibilities of this role include requirements gathering, systematic evaluation of state-of-the-art technologies, prototyping and demonstration of a battery system. The successful candidate will also be involved in test and validation campaigns as well as activities related to design for manufacture and recyclability.

Division Information

The PACCAR Technical Center provides engineering excellence to the truck, engine, and winch divisions of PACCAR Inc through innovative product development and testing. The Technical Center is located in the Skagit Valley about 65 miles north of Seattle, Washington. 

Job Functions / Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with PACCAR Vehicle Divisions to gather and document performance, durability, reliability, and safety requirements for battery packs and systems
  • Support development of battery cell technical requirements and validation plan 
  • Use PACCAR’s TRL process to develop battery system concept
  • Evaluate battery cell technologies using PACCAR’s TRL process to select the appropriate battery cell chemistry and geometry for PACCAR electrical vehicles 
  • Support battery system design, simulation, BMS algorithm development, and HiL activities
  • Support PACCAR purchasing and quality in supplier identification, evaluation, and qualification. 
  • Liaise with PACCAR purchasing, quality and suppliers to guarantee that parts meet quality requirements
  • Conduct battery cell tests, support battery pack and system validation tests



  • Working experience leading battery cell evaluation for automotive applications
  • Working experience supporting the design of high voltage electrical systems
  • Working knowledge of safety principles, best-practices, and functional safety 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Ability to perform in tight schedules in a dynamic environment
  • Demonstrated success working as part of a global, multicultural technology development environment



  • Working experience with TRL process
  • Working experience designing battery systems for BEVs
  • Functional safety working-level experience and knowledge of ISO 26262 fundamentals


BS, MS, or PhD in Electrochemistry, Electrical Engineering, or related fields
