PACCAR has a software engineering position to support a Human Machine Interface (HMI) department for digital prototype construction, and expertise in the Android Automotive operating system.  The position can be located either in Mount Vernon, Washington at the PACCAR Technical Center or at Peterbilt Motors in Denton, Texas.  

The team needs a member with software engineering expertise that can help guide front end interface design to stay within the boundaries of the Android Automotive OS platform.  The design domain is focused initially on infotainment and telematics systems on medium and heavy-duty trucks.  Future work will include ADAS, autonomous and electric vehicle user interface aspects.  The position will perform the programing necessary to develop functional prototypes on that OS platform for application in user testing.  The role will also serve as collaboration expert between PACCAR and technology partners / Tier 1 suppliers to ensure the user interface implementation intent is correctly conveyed in documentation during the implementation phase of product launch.  You will collaborate across multiple PACCAR Divisions including Kenworth and Peterbilt but report to a UX Manager located in Mount Vernon, WA at the PACCAR Technical Center. 

 

 

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as an internal expert for Android Automotive OS to help anticipate architectural/technical issues and optimization of critical software processes. 
    Work in harmony with a UX/UI development team focused on the front-end experience.
    Develop functional prototypes to support user testing and design iterations.
    Support stakeholder reviews via desktop-level and on-hardware simulations of the design.
    Collaborate with cross-functional teams of automotive engineers, technology experts and business analysts, both in-house and external partners, to identify design goals and constraints.
    Analyze various system applications and support requirements definition for the full life cycle of the product.
    Support the creation of technical specifications and documentation.  Including being a conduit of information transfer between PACCAR and implementing Tier 1 & 2 suppliers.  Assist in software development kit (SDK) definition so 3rd parties can develop applications on the platform.
    Ability to deal with a fluid and changing workflow based upon shifting priorities.
    Ability to manage time wisely across projects and competing priorities, meet agreed upon deadlines, and be accountable for work.

 

 

Experience/Desired Skills

  • Expert knowledge about the Android Framework, Android SDK, Google Automotive Services for Android (GAS) 
     
  • Working experience with the Android Architecture (in particular Linux Kernel, Hardware Abstraction Layer, Treble, etc.) and AOSP platform architecture plus related build systems
  • Tooling expert to optimize the performance of Linux / Android applications
  • Understanding of different types of hypervisors in automotive environments
  • Experience with agile development practices and tools (e.g., RTC, SAFe, Jira, etc.)
  • Proficiency coding languages (e.g. C++, Java, etc.)

 

Education Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Electrical/Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or other degree’s with applicable technical experience.
