Requisition Summary
The Field Service Summer intern will have the opportunity to experience many aspects involved with supporting the Kenworth trucks once they leave the production factories. One of the critical responsibilities of Field Service supporting our vehicles is in the assistance with reporting, troubleshooting and managing technical concerns being communicated by the dealers and customers.  Field Service utilizes a group of Field Service Liaisons as an escalation path to the PACCAR Divisional Engineering teams.  Being involved in the activities and responsibilities of these liaisons, an intern will have the exposure to internal processes and feedback loops to Product Engineering, and Field Service.  Field Service offers a strong opportunity to see how Kenworth vehicle support is managed by becoming involved with TCS cases where Technical assistance is requested by Dealers.  These cases range from requesting service and technical specification information to assistance with advanced diagnostics and troubleshooting functionality.  A role in the liaison team would bring exposure to electrical and software architectures utilized in Kenworth vehicles along with J1939 CAN protocols.  An intern would also gain exposure to many reporting and corrective action pathways utilized between Field Service and Engineering by interfacing PACCAR engineering and Field Service-related systems, such as PLR, FTR, Warr Analysis, SIR, PCMS, Premier Spec, REI and Tollgate/PCP.  Many of these are utilized in root cause analysis and producing requests for containment (Field fixes) and corrective action for product/software items being reported by the Field.  A key to continuous product improvement is pushing feedback further upstream.  Field Service achieves this by being involved with upcoming Product Change Projects as a voice for the dealers/customers, as well as with development of serviceability and repairability requirements that engineers should be considering in future projects.  Communication is a critical component to Field Service.  An intern would learn how communication can be effective on a National level within the Field Service and Dealer organizations.

Possible Tasks:

  • Involvement in assisting in needed support to the Field Service Liaisons and/or Product Engineering teams
  • Perform analysis of Field Technical Reports being submitted by the Field Service team for root cause definition, cost/downtime impact, and definition of change request.
  • Work on developing a storage and management scheme for the Field Technical Reports
  • Assist the Field Liaisons with developing a closure feedback process related to Field Technical Reports
  • Assist in updating Field Service contact lists and SharePoint data
  • Attend KW project reviews for upcoming product changes and Tollgate reviews as a representative for Field Service.
  • Participate in drafting Field Service Communications
