Job Summery

The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for analyzing new product designs for manufacturability and providing Division-level support of truck assembly operations. The position is an integral part of the Advanced Manufacturing Team that reports to the Assistant General Manager of Operations. The successful candidate will champion manufacturing initiatives to guide design processes and meet targets for safety, quality, and cost. Analytical skills, effective communication, and attention to detail are attributes that will contribute to exceeding management expectations. 

Job Function / Responsibilities

  • Actively participate in new product development and cost reduction programs.  Use Design for Manufacturability and Assembly (DFMA) and Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) tools to support attainment of Division goals.
  • Conduct should-cost analyses using DFMA software and provide design direction to reduce product cost. 
  • Evaluate supplier tooling proposals including the viability of proposed processes and tooling lineups. 
  • Develop and document the manufacturing process knowledge base.  Research new technologies for production use. 
  • Provide technical expertise in support of supplier negotiations. 
  • Develop and implement new cost models for use with cost estimating software. 
  • Participate in ongoing operations support projects and activities. 

Qualifications / Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, or related field required. 
  • 3+ years of prior experience in an Engineering or Manufacturing role. 
  • Familiarity with various manufacturing processes including metal fabrication, metal stamping, composite molding, injection molding, metal casting and others used in automotive or heavy truck industries desired. 
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are required.  
  • Ability to read and interpret design drawings.  Experience with Creo is desirable.  
  • Excellent organizational, PC, and project management skills.  Ability to handle multiple assignments and change priorities. 
  • Training in Six Sigma DMAIC and/or DFSS is desirable.  
  • Willingness to travel up to 10% annually, occasionally on short notice.
