Requisition Summary

Peterbilt is currently looking for a Technical Content Lead. This role will be responsible for information architecture of the technical content for Peterbilt.  Develop, author, and update vehicle, engine, and aftertreatment system operator manuals, service manuals, programming guides, and quick reference guides utilizing the Content Management System.  Interact with technical experts for content development.  Coordinate finalized product with the publication manager for distribution in print and web medium and in multiple foreign languages.  Serve as the administrator for the CMS.


Here's what you will do in this role:

  • Maintain CMS stylesheets, labels and book masters, cross-platform content strategy, and the PACCAR North American information model
  • Maintain the CMS users, workflow and system configuration files
  • Assign and change status of topics in the CMS
  • Organize the content types, and determine content relativity to the product and various channels
  • Serve as the CMS content expert and provide editorial, creative and technical support to team members including the proper use of DITA tagging
  • Understand the technical aspects of Peterbilt/PACCAR products to develop vehicle operation information for customers, and repair resolution for dealers
  • Develop technical content for operators and technicians based on input from subject matter experts into a structured xml format including graphics, adhering to PACCAR’s style guidelines and standards
  • Ensure that product documentation is produced and published to all determined mediums within required deadline
  • Manage third-party contractor for outsourced work
  • Extract 3D objects from engineering to develop graphics as needed
  • Provide project updates and status to all levels of PACCAR management as required


You're going to need this to be successful:


  • A Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Technical Communications or related field is required.
  • 3-4 years’ experience in a technical author, content manager or similar role
  • Highly computer literate and have advanced knowledge of html, xml publishing, DITA, and structured topic-based authoring
  • Previous experience of minimalism style authoring, re-use of topics, and CMS publishing mechanisms
  • Standard PACCAR travel requirements, as needed, potentially up to 25%


  • Adept at keyword placement and SEO best practices
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Creativity and the ability to develop original content
  • Automotive hands on experience and/or manufacturing experience/product knowledge.
  • Solid mechanical aptitude
  • MS Office Suite utilization experience
  • Strong organizational, schedule management, time management, and reporting skills
  • High level of initiative and self-starter
  • Demonstrated use of proactive problem solving approach
  • Motivated to learn and utilize new software applications
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a team player
  • Strong leadership qualities
  • Flexible work hours but may require some early start or late end times depending on the project



A Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Technical Communications or related field is required.
