Requisition Summary
Do you want to help shape the future of Peterbilt and PACCAR? We are looking for a Mechanical Engineer with interest in developing the systems required to launch an autonomous enabled truck including new designs for Outerbody and Interior Trim Elements, Mechanical Structures, and Electrical Power Distribution. Duties involve interface with Product Planning, Marketing & Sales, and Management across all PACCAR Divisions to evaluate customer requirements and definition of vehicle level targets that support launching the next generation of autonomous trucks. Scope of work includes concept development, final design development, validation planning, testing support and launching product into production.
Job Functions / Responsibilities
- Lead the development of ADAS Level 4 Autonomous Vehicle Platform (AV-P) systems through the entire product development process from Project Definition to Product Launch.
- Develop mechanical system concepts to meet vehicle platform requirements and utilize analytical tools to verify a robust design.
- Utilize DFMEA and DVP tools to mitigate system design risk throughout the concept, design, and validation phases of the program.
- Create and maintain up-to-date project schedules and develop mitigation plans as needed to meet program milestones.
- Effectively manage relationships with the autonomous partner and suppliers to ensure information flows smoothly and issues are proactively addressed.
- Coordinate regularly during the development process with other PACCAR engineering teams including Embedded software engineering, PACCAR Innovation Center (PIC), and PACCAR Technical Center (PTC).
- Coordinate regularly during the development process with cross-functional groups including Product Planning, Purchasing, Manufacturing, and PACCAR Parts.
- Act in a professional manner in all contacts with external and internal customers.
- Some travel may be required.
Qualification & Skills
- Strong organizational and documentation skills with the ability to prioritize work effectively
- Demonstrate ability to handle multiple tasks, ability to learn on the fly, and adapt to change
- Demonstrate professional and successful communication skills (verbal/written) with strong, effective interpersonal abilities
- Proactive approach to reconciling issues and reaching consensus
- Strong overall knowledge of PACCAR vehicles
- ADAS vehicle experience preferred
- Knowledge of and/or experience in heavy truck components and systems is preferred
- Strong working knowledge of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Thorough knowledge and experience with CREO / CREO View / Windchill (or similar) required
- Experience with a Phase Gate development process
- Knowledge in the use of Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) tools
Competencies
Education
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field is required.
