Requisition Summary

PACCAR’s Embedded Engineering department, which serves both Kenworth and Peterbilt, has an opening for a Control System Architect.  The successful candidate is responsible for requirements decomposition within a control system to establish the impact and integration of functions on the associated electronic hardware, base software, and application software.  The ideal candidate will be able to lead on specifications that allow engineers to deliver on electronic component subsystem designs to support the control system electrical integration into commercial vehicles and continue to enhance PACCAR’s global embedded functionality and system development growth.

Job Functions / Responsibilities

  • Introduce design decisions regarding controller states, signals, and boundaries at a control system level that will serve as the interface between electrical harnesses, electronic components, vendor base software, and embedded application software.
  • Communicate control system functionality to upstream and downstream stakeholders.
  • Follow project management processes to maintain schedule, budget, and functionality.
  • Support launch at truck assembly plants as needed and resolve field issues as identified.
  • Ensure industry leading quality and reliability is met, maintained, and exceeded on all components.
  • Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team with mechanical engineers, manufacturing engineers and other professionals to ensure quality commercial vehicle electrical designs.
  • Investigate and resolve warranty issues.
  • Up to 15% travel.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, lean, collaborative team environment.

  • Competency with standard business software tools (word processing, spreadsheets, etc.).
  • Able to learn and use new processes and techniques and resourcefully solve complex technical issues.

Desired Skills / Attributes

  • 3 - 5 years design & release of automotive or commercial vehicle electrical components, including
  • software, wire harnesses, electronic controls, switches, and/or driver input devices.
  • Proficiency using Engineering tools such as Pro-Engineer, Mentor Graphics, Matlab/Simulink, IBM Rational Rhapsody, IBM DOORS Next Generation, and Application & Product Lifecycle Management tools).
  • SAE J1939 CAN Protocol
  • ISO 17987 LIN Protocol
  • Awareness of commercial truck regulations, especially affecting instrumentation, emissions, safety, on-board diagnostics, and other areas impacting electrical/electronic design, architecture, and vehicle functionality.
  • Knowledge of Design for Six Sigma tools including QFD, FMEA, DVPR, etc.
  • Automotive embedded electronic component R&D.
  • Embedded real-time systems design and implementation.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or equivalent degree required.
